Other Costs
Living costs in China are relatively low compared to many countries, making LNU-MSU an affordable place to live and learn. Estimated basic living costs for a single student is approximately 2,000 - 4,000 RMB per month (not including accommodation). The cost of living will vary depending on lifestyle and spending habits.
For Mainland Chinese students, the standard LNU housing rate is charged for the residence halls. International students have the option of renting hall rooms at a rate of 80 RMB per day for a single occupancy room or 50 RMB per day for a double occupancy room. International students who would rather rent an apartment off campus can find similarly priced accommodations at 1,500 to 3,000 RMB per month (excluding utility fees). Off-campus housing contracts are either 6-month or 12-months and usually require an additional one-month of rent as a damage deposit. Most landlords require rent payment in 3 or 6-month installments.
LNU-MSU also offers some extra-curricular courses that are not required for graduation. These courses are available to all students, Chinese and International, at the standard rate of 1,000 RMB per credit hour. Courses offered vary from semester to semester.
There are some other standard costs for international students studying in China that do not apply to Mainland Chinese students. There is a mandatory student insurance fee that costs 500 RMB per semester. Since the student visas we obtain are valid for one semester, there is a 400 RMB visa processing and acquisition fee each semester. In addition, students who wish to study at LNU-MSU for more than one semester must pay an additional one-time fee of approximately 650 RMB for a health checkup and JW202 form processing.
International Partners Scholarship
One of the benefits of MSU's many partnerships with universities in China is the scholarship opportunities available to students who have studied at one of the partnering schools. Students, whether Chinese or international, who have studied at LNU-MSU and transfer to MSU Springfield qualify for the International Partners Scholarship. The value of scholarship varies with the number of credit hours taken at MSU Springfield. The scholarship waives 75% of the out-of-state portion of tuition charged by Missouri State University. To make this deal even better, there is no limit to the number of students eligible.
